In a line behind just about everyone else whose first NFS was in the Underground series.

I’m still skeptical, since the last time they put in something new/”innovative” in a Need for Speed game, this happened:

I hope the driving feels decent; I could really go for a good arcade racer. There’ll hopefully be hands-on impressions after E3, or - even better, for me, as I’ll probably be attending - some public demos at Gamescom.

Yeah. At least customization is back!

Yeah, their ‘innovations’ sucked. My favourite NFS game is a toss-up between HP2 and the original Most Wanted.

So it’s like Underground, but with $100k+ cars and most likely a lot less personalization.

Also, “In Game Footage” my ass.

Mmm...Rocket Bunny and possible RWB. Sweet!

Kinda confused as to why they have an E82 1 Series (maybe it’s a 128i) as a traffic vehicle, though.

I see widebody kits, licensed tuners, a BR-Z, a 180SX, and more. It may not have as much personalization, but it sure looks like a return to form for NFS.

I dunno, but real vehicles as traffic vehicles is kind-of cool.

I wouldn’t say that they sucked, just that they overspecialised or got tunnel vision and focused on their innovation to the detriment of everything else.

That’s what makes me concerned; pandering to the Underground fanbase is potentially profitable and all, but what if other parts of the games are overlooked?

My main concerns are the pursuit system, and the customization. Physics is third, followed by all the other stuff.

They’ve had those since the Hot Pursuit reboot in 2010. The Cadillac CTS-V is a traffic car in that game, The Run, and Most Wanted ‘12 for some reason.

The player was faster than the game engine’s rendering speed.

Yeah, they’ve been using real models as traffic since Criterion’s Hot Pursuit reboot in 2010.

They’ve also been adding and removing models as the games went on.

First was Hot Pursuit, which had the following: Audi A3, Audi A4, Cadillac CTS-V, Chevrolet Cobalt, Chevrolet Express, Dodge Caliber, Dodge Grand Caravan, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Ram 1500, GMC TopKick, Infinti G35, Nissan Frontier, Nissan Versa, and Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

Second, The Run, which had the Audi A4, Cadillac CTS (literally the CTS-V model turned into a plain CTS), Chevrolet Cobalt, Dodge Caliber, Dodge Charger SRT-8 (the standard one wasn’t playable, only an unlockable taxi version), Dodge Grand Caravan, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Ram 1500, Ford Crown Victoria (appeared as a taxi in NYC, also as a playable taxi), GMC Savana (the HP Express model with GMC badging), Infinti G35, Nissan Frontier, Nissan Versa, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and a bunch of unlicensed models.

2012’s Most Wanted saw a reduction in traffic models: Audi A3, Cadillac CTS-V, Chevrolet Cobalt and Express, Dodge Caliber, Grand Caravan, and Ram 1500, GMC TopKick, Infiniti G35, Nissan Frontier and Versa.

Rivals saw a little more traffic differentiation, with the A3, Cobalt, and Caliber return, with the Ford Explorer and F-150 SVT Raptor being added, and all other unplayable vehicles being stationary unlicensed props.

Criterion looked promising, but then screwed over the entire NFS franchise. It’s the plastic-bumper C3 Corvette of game studios.

Personally, I’d have to disagree. The Criterion NFS titles are some of the best in the series, in my opinion.

Though Hot Pursuit did seem more Burnout-like, the pursuit tactics felt much more realistic than in previous NFS titles.

And then their 2012 Most Wanted reboot, which even though it didn’t feel as worthy of the Most Wanted name as Hot Pursuit was worthy of it’s name, it was still a great game with a better focus on quality over quantity with the cars you could drive, and it was just a blast to play, especially online.

Hot Pursuit focused too much on gimmicks for me to really like it.

2012 Most Wanted lacked the satisfaction of progression, and the decent storyline of the original Most Wanted.

But, to each their own.
